Here Are Some Surprising Facts About Women’s Cricket

Women’s cricket has come a long way ever since the first official match was played in 1934 but never really got the attention it deserved. Although several female cricketers have enriched this sport with their outstanding performances, this iteration of the game remained unable to generate the kind of interest menโ€™s cricket does.

1. The first ever Women’s World Cup

The first women’s World Cup was held in 1973 in England, two years before the first men’s World Cup was played.

2. The Great Belinda Clark

Belinda Clark, a former cricketer from Australia was the first woman cricketer to score a double hundred. She’s also the first woman who got enlisted into ICCโ€™s hall of fame.

3. Australia as the most successful team

Australia is by far one of the most successful women cricket team. They have won seven titles out of the eleven and won five World Cups till date.

4. Women Asia Cup

The first ever Asia Cup was held in 2004 which was won by India. Pakistan made their first appearance in the women’s Asia Cup in 2006.

5. Youngest player in the history of cricket

Sajida Shah from Pakistan is the youngest female player to appear in international cricket, at the age of 12. She also holds the record of taking 7 wickets off 4 runs which is so far the best bowling figures in ODIs.
