No Gym? No Problem!

These four exercises you can do any time and anywhere.

Let’s admit it, Pakistanis are not the most fitness oriented people. Our cities and our neighbourhoods are not designed to encourage active living with very few people having access to parks or open areas. To make matters worse, most of the densely populated office areas don’t offer any exercise facilities either.

Having said that, there are 4 exercises you can do anywhere and at any time for a full body work out:

1. Pushups:

The good old ‘pushups’ work your upper body in a way that no other exercise does. Pushups can easily be done in a small space so whether you are at work or at home, pushups will give you a full upper-body work in just a few minutes. This video will show you how to do 5 different types of pushups.

2. Squats:

Most Pakistani men don’t realise the issue of a ‘Gym Body’. You see guys working on their arms and chest but paying no attention to their lower half of the body, the legs! Hence they have big upper body and thin legs. Squats are a great lower body workout and if you have enough space to stand, you have enough space to do squats. Here is a video showing how:

3. Planks

While many people spend time doing crunches to get 6-pack-abs, very few realise that the best way to strengthen your core (mid-region) is to do planks. Again, you don’t need much space or any equipment to do this exercise. This video explains how to do planks:

4. Stair workout:

Last but definitely not the least is steps or stair workout. While the above three exercise will give you strength, taking a few flights of stairs every day will elevate your heart rate and improve your cardiovascular health. Remember, health and fitness are not just about how you look from the outside, but also how your body functions from the inside. A stair workout can be done in an apartment block or at a public office. Any place that has a few steps is good for stair workout.

The bottom line is, you don’t need a fancy gym membership or access to parks to get fit and stay healthy. With a little bit of motivation and planning, you can utilise your everyday location for your exercises and achieve your health goals.
